Teriyaki Sauce
- ¼ cup soy sauce
- 3 tablespoons brown sugar
- 1 cup water, divided
- 2 tablespoons honey
- 3 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 teaspoon fresh ginger, grated or minced
- 2 tablespoons corn starch
- 1 tablespoon orange zest
Stir Fry
- 1 lb ground turkey
- 2 teaspoons sesame oil
- 3 cups broccoli florets, fresh or frozen
- 1 small onion, small diced
- 1 cup shredded carrots
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Make the Teriyaki Sauce: In a small saucepan over medium heat, combine ¾ cup water, soy sauce, garlic, ginger, honey, and brown sugar. Stir to blend the ingredients thoroughly.
- Thicken the Sauce: Bring the mixture to a low boil. Meanwhile, whisk together the remaining ¼ cup water and corn starch until the starch is fully dissolved. Slowly add this slurry to the boiling sauce while stirring continuously. Allow the sauce to thicken slightly, then remove from heat and stir in the orange zest. Set aside.
- Cook Aromatics and Turkey: Heat sesame oil in a wok or large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the diced onion and cook for several minutes until softened. Add the ground turkey, cooking and stirring frequently until it reaches an internal temperature of 165°F and is fully cooked, about 7-10 minutes.
- Add Vegetables: Stir in the broccoli florets and shredded carrots. Cook until the vegetables are heated through and tender but still crisp.
- Combine with Sauce: Reduce the heat to low and pour the prepared teriyaki sauce over the turkey and vegetables. Simmer the mixture for several minutes, allowing the flavors to meld and the sauce to coat everything evenly.
- Serve: Serve the stir fry hot over cooked rice, noodles, or as desired for a complete meal.
Notes
- Use fresh broccoli for best texture, but frozen broccoli works well too.
- Adjust the sweetness of the teriyaki sauce by varying the amount of honey and brown sugar.
- For extra flavor, garnish with toasted sesame seeds or chopped green onions before serving.
- Ensure the turkey is fully cooked to 165°F for food safety.
- This recipe can easily be doubled for meal prep or larger families.
