Ingredients

Scale

Main Ingredients

  • 4 cups shredded cooked chicken
  • 1 (10.5 ounce) can cream of chicken soup
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 2 cups shredded Cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup sliced green onions
  • 1/2 cup slivered almonds
  • 6 slices bacon, cooked and crumbled
  • 1 ½ teaspoons hot sauce (such as Tabasco®), or to taste

Topping

  • 1 sleeve buttery crackers (such as Ritz® crackers), crushed
  • 1/2 cup butter, melted

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Chicken Mixture: In a large mixing bowl, combine the shredded cooked chicken, cream of chicken soup, sour cream, shredded Cheddar cheese, sliced green onions, slivered almonds, crumbled bacon, and hot sauce. Mix everything thoroughly until all ingredients are evenly incorporated.
  2. Prepare the Topping: In a small bowl, combine the crushed buttery crackers with the melted butter. Mix until the crackers are well coated with butter for a crunchy, flavorful topping.
  3. Assemble the Casserole: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Transfer the chicken mixture to a greased 9×13-inch baking dish, spreading it evenly. Sprinkle the buttered cracker mixture evenly over the top of the chicken mixture.
  4. Bake: Place the casserole in the preheated oven and bake for 30 to 35 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the casserole is bubbly around the edges.
  5. Serve: Remove the casserole from the oven and let it cool slightly before serving to allow it to set. Serve warm, garnished with additional sliced green onions if desired.

Notes

  • You can substitute cooked rotisserie chicken for convenience.
  • Adjust the hot sauce quantity depending on your heat preference.
  • For a nuttier flavor, toast the slivered almonds lightly before mixing.
  • Use gluten-free crackers if needed to make this recipe gluten-free.
  • Leftovers store well in the refrigerator for up to 3 days and can be reheated in the oven.
