Churro Cracker Candy is a delightful treat combining crispy saltine crackers topped with a rich, buttery caramel layer and finished with a creamy white chocolate coating. This sweet and salty snack captures the flavors of a churro with a crunchy texture and a perfect balance of cinnamon, sugar, and chocolate sweetness.

Ingredients

Scale

Base

  • 23 sleeves of saltine crackers

Topping

  • 1 cup (2 sticks) of butter
  • 1 cup of brown sugar

Coating

  • 1 (12 oz) bag of white chocolate chips

Seasoning

  • 1/4 cup of granulated sugar
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons of cinnamon

Instructions

  1. Prepare the base: Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat. Arrange the saltine crackers in a single layer, covering the entire surface of the baking sheet without overlapping.
  2. Make the caramel topping: In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Once melted, stir in the brown sugar and bring the mixture to a gentle boil. Let it cook for 3 minutes, stirring constantly to ensure it doesn’t burn.
  3. Pour the caramel over crackers: Immediately pour the hot caramel mixture evenly over the arranged saltine crackers, spreading it carefully to cover all crackers.
  4. Bake the crackers: Place the baking sheet in a preheated oven at 375°F (190°C) and bake for about 5 minutes or until the caramel bubbly and set. Remove from the oven and allow it to cool for a few minutes.
  5. Prepare cinnamon sugar blend: In a small bowl, combine the granulated sugar and cinnamon, mixing well.
  6. Sprinkle cinnamon sugar: While the caramel is still warm, sprinkle the cinnamon sugar evenly over the top of the caramel-coated crackers for added churro flavor.
  7. Melt white chocolate chips: In a microwave-safe bowl, melt the white chocolate chips in 30-second intervals, stirring between each until smooth and fully melted without overheating.
  8. Coat with white chocolate: Drizzle or spread the melted white chocolate evenly over the cooled caramel cracker layer, making sure to cover as much surface as possible for a smooth finish.
  9. Chill to set: Place the baking sheet in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes or until the white chocolate hardens completely.
  10. Cut and serve: Once set, break or cut the candy into bite-sized pieces. Store any leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature or in the refrigerator.

Notes

  • Use parchment paper for easy removal and cleanup.
  • Do not overbake the caramel to avoid burning the crackers.
  • You can substitute milk or dark chocolate chips if preferred.
  • Store candy in a cool place to prevent melting of the white chocolate coating.
  • For a stronger cinnamon flavor, increase the cinnamon quantity slightly.
