Cheeseburger Pigs in a Blanket are a fun and delicious appetizer featuring cocktail sausages wrapped in crescent roll dough with melted American cheese and tangy dill pickle chips, topped with a golden egg wash and sesame seeds for a crunchy finish. Perfect for parties, game days, or quick snacks.

Ingredients

Scale

Pastry

  • 1 (8 ounce) tube of crescent rolls (8 count)

Filling

  • 3 slices American cheese
  • 68 hamburger dill pickle chips
  • 24 cocktail sausages (12 ounce packet)

Topping

  • 1 egg
  • 1 tablespoon water
  • 2 teaspoons sesame seeds

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) to ensure it’s ready for baking your pigs in a blanket.
  2. Prepare the crescent dough: Unroll the tube of crescent rolls and separate the dough into the 8 pre-cut triangles.
  3. Add cheese and pickles: Cut the American cheese slices into small strips to fit inside the dough triangles. Place a small piece of cheese and 1 or 2 pickle chips on each triangle close to the wider end.
  4. Assemble the pigs in a blanket: Place a cocktail sausage on top of the cheese and pickles. Roll the dough tightly around the sausage, starting at the wide end and rolling towards the point to fully encase the filling.
  5. Make the egg wash: In a small bowl, beat the egg with 1 tablespoon of water until well combined. This will be brushed on the dough to help create a golden, shiny crust.
  6. Arrange on a baking sheet: Place the wrapped sausages seam-side down on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper or lightly greased to prevent sticking.
  7. Brush with egg wash: Using a pastry brush, apply the egg wash evenly over each pig in a blanket to promote browning and shine.
  8. Add sesame seeds: Sprinkle 2 teaspoons of sesame seeds over the top of each roll for a nutty flavor and appealing texture.
  9. Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for about 12-15 minutes or until the crescent rolls are golden brown and cooked through.
  10. Cool and serve: Let the pigs in a blanket cool for a few minutes before serving. Enjoy them warm as a tasty snack or appetizer.

Notes

  • You can substitute American cheese with cheddar or your preferred melting cheese.
  • For a spicy kick, add a tiny dab of mustard or ketchup inside before rolling.
  • Check the crescent roll package for specific baking times and oven temperatures as they can vary among brands.
  • Use mini dill pickles if hamburger-sized are unavailable to maintain flavor and texture.
  • These are best served fresh but can be reheated in a toaster oven for a couple of minutes.
