Ingredients

Scale

Pie Base

  • 1 unbaked pie crust

Meat Filling

  • 1 pound lean ground beef
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • ½ cup Hormel real bacon bits or 5 slices of bacon, cooked and crumbled

Binding & Seasonings

  • ⅓ cup Panko bread crumbs
  • ¼ cup ketchup
  • 2 Tbsp barbeque sauce
  • 2 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • 1 large egg
  • ¼ cup milk

Cheese Topping

  • 1 ½ cups grated cheddar cheese or your favorite cheese

Instructions

  1. Prepare Pie Crust: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Place the unbaked pie crust into a 9-inch pie dish, pressing it into the edges and trimming any excess. Set aside.
  2. Cook Meat Mixture: In a large skillet over medium heat, sauté the diced onion and minced garlic until softened, about 3-4 minutes. Add the ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it apart with a spoon, about 6-8 minutes. Drain excess fat if necessary.
  3. Add Flavorings: Stir in the bacon bits or crumbled bacon, Panko bread crumbs, ketchup, barbeque sauce, Worcestershire sauce, and black pepper to the cooked beef mixture. Mix well to combine and cook for an additional 2 minutes to meld the flavors. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
  4. Prepare Egg Mixture: In a small bowl, whisk together the egg and milk until well blended.
  5. Assemble Pie: Pour the beef mixture into the prepared pie crust and evenly spread it out. Pour the egg and milk mixture over the meat filling to help bind the pie as it bakes.
  6. Add Cheese Topping: Sprinkle the grated cheddar cheese evenly over the top of the pie.
  7. Bake the Pie: Place the pie in the preheated oven and bake for 30-35 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly and the pie filling is set.
  8. Cool and Serve: Remove the pie from the oven and allow it to cool for about 10 minutes before slicing and serving. Enjoy warm.

Notes

  • You can substitute the bacon bits with freshly cooked bacon for a more robust flavor.
  • Use your favorite cheese such as mozzarella, Monterey Jack, or a blend for different flavor profiles.
  • For a crispier crust, pre-bake the pie crust for 5 minutes before adding the filling.
  • This pie can be refrigerated and reheated for quick meals during the week.
  • Adjust the seasoning to taste, adding salt if needed since bacon and cheeses can be salty.
