Dough
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 cup water
- 1/3 cup plus 1 tablespoon unsalted butter
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 large egg
Coating
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
- Prepare the dough: In a medium saucepan, combine water, butter, salt, and 2 tablespoons of sugar. Bring to a boil over medium heat until the butter is melted and the mixture is hot.
- Add flour: Remove from heat and immediately stir in the flour. Mix vigorously until the dough forms a ball and pulls away from the sides of the pan.
- Incorporate egg and vanilla: Allow the dough to cool slightly, then beat in the egg and vanilla extract one at a time until fully incorporated.
- Shape the bites: Using your hands or a piping bag, form the dough into small bite-sized balls or shapes suitable for air frying.
- Preheat air fryer: Preheat your air fryer to 375°F (190°C) for about 3-5 minutes.
- Air fry the churro bites: Place the dough balls in the air fryer basket in a single layer, making sure they do not touch. Air fry for 8-10 minutes or until them are golden brown and crispy on the outside.
- Mix coating: While the bites cook, combine the granulated sugar and ground cinnamon in a large bowl.
- Coat the churro bites: Once cooked, immediately toss the hot churro bites in the cinnamon sugar mixture until fully coated.
- Serve warm: Let the churro bites cool slightly before serving. Enjoy them warm for the best taste and texture.
Notes
- You can use a piping bag fitted with a large star tip to pipe the dough for a more traditional churro shape.
- Do not overcrowd the air fryer basket to ensure even cooking and crispiness.
- Serve with chocolate or caramel dipping sauce for extra indulgence.
- For a dairy-free option, substitute butter with a vegan alternative.
